El Nuevo San Juan Health Center represents the present in our 37-year history. "Nuevo" distinguishes the building from our original site, The San Juan Health Center, now affectionately known as "El Viejo San Juan."

Considered the heart of our clinical operations, El Nuevo San Juan Health Center houses 16 departments offering medical, diagnostic and ancillary services. Since it opened in 2001, El Nuevo San Juan serves as the home base for our network of satellite clinics in the South Bronx and Queens. Its central location, convenient seven- days-a-week schedule, comprehensive primary and specialty services and a bilingual, culturally competent staff, (most of whom live in the neighborhood) make it a vital community health resource.

El Nuevo San Juan is expanding to create additional clinical space for obstetrics, pediatrics, gynecology, adult medicine, support services and podiatry.

The construction will continue as we prepare to build an expansion building on Simpson Street adjacent to El Nuevo San Juan. The Simpson Street expansion project brings an additional 50,000 square-feet to the site, allowing for more state-of-the-art health services that promote best health outcomes for a vibrant and growing South Bronx community.

My Story

"UHP Is A Family Affair"

I've had asthma for as long as I can remember. When I was eight years old, my mother found Urban Health Plan and brought me to see Dr. Mohammad (now head of the Department of Pediatrics). Dr. Mohammad was able to control the asthma with medication. Years later, when my own daughter was diagnosed with asthma. my mom reminded me about Dr. Mohammad so I brought her back to the asthma program at Urban Health Plan. Dr. Mohammad was still here and she treated my daughter. She has hasn't had an attack in eight or nine months. I recommend the asthma program completely. I love it here, the doctors do everything and they really care. Even if I move, I'm not changing doctors. If your child is sick they listen to you, hear what you're saying, and you don't have to wait long.
