Paloma Izquierdo-Hernandez Testifies Congressional Briefing In Washington, D.C.

Paloma Izquierdo-Hernandez, President and Chief Executive Officer of Urban Health Plan, gave testimony on how community health centers will be affected by the stimulus package at a Congressional briefing in Washington, D.C. on Monday, February 23, 2009. The briefing was co-sponsored by the Alliance for Health Reform and the UnitedHealth Foundation.

In her presentation, “Community Health Centers and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act,” Ms. Izquierdo-Hernandez described the impact and challenges that the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act will have on the nation’s community health centers. A copy of her presentation is available on the Urban Health Plan web site.

The Alliance for Health Reform is a bipartisan nonprofit congressional education organization with a mission to promote health reform and universal health coverage.

Urban Health Plan is a federally qualified community health center, serving the residents of the South Bronx. It operates three sites and five school-based facilities. Last year, it served more than 31,000 individuals through 171,000 health care encounters. Urban Health Plan is fully accredited by The Joint Commission.

Urban Health Plan Named A "10" in the Top 25 Hispanic Nonprofits by Hispanic Business Magazine & Hispanic Business.Com

Hispanic Business Magazine named Urban Health Plan (UHP) one of their 25 Top Hispanic non-profits. Ranked number 10, UHP joined Altamed, Health Services Corp., Aspira Association, Puerto Rican Family Institute and the National Council of La Raza, among others in this year's selection.

Non-profit organizations were identified from internet database listings of tax exempt organizations located in the 50 states or the District of Columbia. A list of these organizations was sorted by financial criteria and screened for descriptions related to Hispanic issues. Qualified organizations were sent a survey asking for information; organizations were ranked on the basis of annual operating budget - the money that goes to fulfill the organizations' social mission.

Together, the top 25 Hispanic nonprofits report expenditures of over $588 million. That figure represents a major social investment in the Hispanic community -- and an ongoing work that deserves to grab headlines!
