Mr. Figueras has been in the health sector for over 11 years and in IT operations for over 25 years. He began his career in 1977 in the newsprint typesetting business. There he further developed his technical skills and honed his inter- personal and administrative skills. In less than six (6) years he was promoted to AVP. Changing the business he was in, he later directed technology at the mergers and acquisition firm The BlackStone Group for two (2) years.
His healthcare experience started in 1997 as director of IT for a managed care organization, Americhoice, with offices in NY, NJ, MA and a computer center in AZ. There he learned the HMO healthcare business. In 2000, he left the HMO world and decided to join the other end of healthcare that provided direct patient care. He interviewed with Ms. Paloma Hernandez, President/CEO, of Urban Health Plan and the Chief Medical Officer, Samuel DeLeon.
He was excited with the vision that the CEO projected as well as the feeling that the organization provided an atmosphere of “can do”. Mr. Figueras feels fulfilled being a part of UHP since he has been an integral part of improving the health of the patients that call UHP “Home.” Mr. Figueras prides himself in providing state of the art diagnostics and electronic health records that have created an environment where patient safety and care is second to none.
