The state is currently prioritizing households that are already enrolled, but new approvals will begin when federal processing resumes.
Stay informed by checking the NYC ACCESS HRA app or website, myBenefits, or the ebtEDGE app. You must continue completing all required recertifications, even during the federal shutdown, to remain eligible once benefits resume.
Starting November 1, 2025, some adults receiving SNAP must meet new work rules. These rules apply to Able-Bodied Adults Without Dependents (ABAWDs). Able-Bodied Adults Without Dependents (ABAWDs) are defined as: people ages 18 to 64 who can work, do not live with a child under 14, and do not qualify for an exemption.
To keep your benefits, you must work, volunteer, or train for at least 80 hours each month, or participate in a community service program. You can also stay eligible by doing 20 hours of paid or unpaid work, enrolling in job training, or volunteering. For example, if you receive $300 in benefits and the minimum wage is $16.50, you would need to volunteer about 18 hours a month.
