In addition to being named to City & State’s Bronx Power 100 for the sixth time, our President & CEO, Paloma Izquierdo Hernandez sat down with the incredible Cheryl Wills on Spectrum News NY1’s “In Focus” to share how Urban Health Plan has grown from a single health center in the South Bronx to 12 centers (soon-to-be 13!) serving the Bronx, Central Harlem, and Corona, Queens.
Paloma’s leadership is rooted in the legacy of our founder, Dr. Richard Izquierdo, affectionately known as “Doc,” who opened his first practice on Southern Boulevard more than five decades ago with a simple but powerful belief: that every person, regardless of income or zip code, deserved exceptional care. Paloma has spent her life honoring that legacy, and 52 years after Doc’s vision became Urban Health Plan, that mission is stronger than ever.
In her conversation with Cheryl, Paloma spoke to the direct impact that social drivers, including poverty, housing, food insecurity, education, and job readiness, play in the health of the people we serve, and how UHP works every day to address those factors alongside our clinical care UHP is committed to ensuring that no one in our community is ever turned away, regardless of their ability to pay.
Thank you, Cheryl Wills and Spectrum News NY1, for shining a spotlight on this work and for giving Paloma the opportunity to share our story.
