Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the U.S. In 2025, an estimated 152,810 people will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer, and sadly, many won’t know until it’s advanced.

First thing to know is that Colorectal Cancer Is Preventable—and Treatable When Caught Early.

Screening saves lives by finding cancer early, when it’s easier to treat, or by catching precancerous polyps before they become a problem.

Colorectal Cancer Screening Options

At Urban Health Plan, we offer screening options that are safe, effective, and accessible:

FIT Kit (Fecal Immunochemical Test)

A non-invasive, at-home test that checks your stool for hidden blood.
No prep or dietary changes needed.
Done once a year.
If your provider thinks this is a good option, they will provide you with a FIT Kit during your visit.

Colonoscopy (Test Performed Outside of Urban Health Plan)

A routine outpatient procedure to detect and remove polyps.
Recommended every 10 years if results are normal.
Often fully covered by insurance or available at low cost.

Who Should Get Screened?

Everyone 45 years or older
Anyone with a family history of colorectal cancer
Individuals with symptoms like blood in stool, chronic constipation, or unexplained weight loss
