Urban Health Plan (UHP) announced the appointment of Luz Correa as Strategic Communications Officer/VP of Marketing, a newly created role. Luz will become a member of Urban’s Executive Team and lead the development, advancement and execution of the company’s communications and marketing strategy.
This position was created in response to UHP’s growing footprint across New York City. In recent years, the health system expanded significantly beyond its Bronx roots with locations in Corona, Queens and Central Harlem. In total, UHP has 24 community and school-based health centers, a mental health site and six administrative and program sites, employing approximately 900 associates. Reporting to Paloma Hernandez, Urban Health Plan’s President and CEO, Luz will help Urban Health Plan shape its voice and presence throughout New York City.

Previously, Luz served as Vice President of Government & Community Affairs for Union Community Health Center (UCHC), a multi-site, federally qualified health center, based in the Bronx, New York. There she conceptualized marketing/public relations strategies which allowed UCHC to cultivate and enhance meaningful relationships with targeted, external audiences, including media, key influencers, and community stakeholders. She also played a lead role in identifying challenges and emerging issues faced by the center, while spearheading all advocacy efforts and maintaining positive relationships with city, state, and federal officials.
Prior to UCHC, Luz served as a National Public Affairs Specialist for State Farm Insurance, where she was responsible for building and cultivating relationships with national, non-profit, Hispanic organizations such as the National Association of Latino Elected Officials, LaRaza, The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute and The National Hispana Leadership Institute. Within her market, she managed all philanthropic efforts, media relations, and community development efforts, including successfully developing and executing innovative co-marketing campaigns and events with diverse partners and cultural institutions.
A Queens resident who was born and raised in the Bronx, Luz earned her bachelor’s degree from the City College of New York, Center for Worker Education (CWE) in 2008. Today, she is a member of the Queens District Attorney’s Latino Advisory Board and the CWE Alumni Advisory Board.
