According to the CDC, intimate partner violence (IPV) is a serious public health problem that can have a profound, lifelong impact on health, opportunity, and well-being. It can also impact the lives and futures of families.
It’s important to understand that IPV can occur in many different types of relationships and affect individuals regardless of race, gender, economic status, or sexual orientation.
IPV can vary in how often it happens and how severe it is. It can range from one episode of violence that could have lasting impact to chronic and severe episodes over multiple years.
IPV is experienced through different types of behavior including:
- Physical violence
- Sexual violence
- Gaslighting/ Psychological/Mental or Emotional Abuse

Launched in 2022, “Know the Red Flags” is a campaign to increase awareness about Intimate Partner Violence in NYC and is funded through a grant from New York City Councilmember Rafael Salamanca and the Domestic Violence and Empowerment Initiative (DOVE).
